What is the NU Day of Giving?

NU Day of Giving is an annual single-day global online fundraising event for Northwood University. In this event, for 24 hours, alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends from around the world come together to give forward and transform lives. You can help the young men and women who attend Northwood University develop into the executives and entrepreneurs of tomorrow, as leaders in free-market thought.

Taking place on Founders Day during Values Emphasis Week, this is your chance to show your NU pride through a gift. We look forward to the timing of this year’s day of giving fueling enthusiasm both on campus and through social media. Your gift and participation in this special one-day event is a commitment to the Northwood Idea and an investment in the growth of free-enterprise.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes, for this special event there is a $10 minimum donation.

Can I make a gift by mail or phone and have it counted for this special one-day event?

While we always welcome your generous support of Northwood, due to the short timeframe of the NU Day of Giving, only the following gifts count toward this special event and the associated contest goals or matching funds:

  • Gifts made by phone or online on March 23, 2018
  • Checks with “NU Day of Giving” in the memo field that are dated on or before March 23rd and are received by March 30th.

Can I make a gift of stock on the NU Day of Giving?

Donors can give a gift of stock to support their favorite school, program, or cause. To learn more about how to make gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, please call the office of Advancement at 989-837-4356.

  • To transfer stocks being held in street name at a broker (there is no physical certificate), please advise your broker to route through Morgan Stanley DTC #0015 for Northwood acct #949-017984. For questions, please call Mary Deasey at 614-473-2425.
  • Please be sure to have your broker notify the Northwood University Finance Department (Dave Bender 989-837-4374) of the gift. Formal notification by the broker will initiate processing of the gift.

Can I make a recurring gift on the NU Day of Giving?

Donors can start recurring gifts on the NU Day of Giving, but only payments processed on giving day itself will count toward the NU Day of Giving– while the first installment would be eligible for challenge match funds, the grand total would not be. To initiate a recurring gift today, please go to the Northwood University giving page.

Can I make an estate gift on the NU Day of Giving?

Absolutely! Please be sure to call Warren Mault at 989-837-4349 on or before March 23, 2018 to discuss your options.

Is my NU Day of Giving contribution tax-deductible?

Yes. Your gift is tax-deductible as allowed by law (gifts of $55 or more are 100% tax-deductible; gifts of under $55 will have the tax-deductible amount adjusted for the special keychain gift). After you make your gift, you will receive an e-mail confirmation, followed up by a mailed letter in the next week or two.
